The months keep rolling by, and Maia is now 5 months old! Once again I find that life is too busy to post often, and I apologize that this time it has been a whole month. As usual, I have lots of pictures to share, so I will mix those in with my updates.
While Maia is constantly growing and progressing, a lot of what I say will sound like I am being repetitive, mainly because the changes are small/subtle but still changes that I want to note. I categorized them under topic headings, just for something different.
Rolling over: she's been doing this for a while, mainly back to belly, she just a pro at it now. No effort at all. And she turns back the other way more often now, much easier. And on one day a week or three ago, she actually traveled a few feet by rolling over and over, over a 15- minute span.
Sitting: she is starting to show more signs of sitting on her own. She has no problem sitting upright in the Bumbo, and sits upright on my lap with a minimum of holding. A few times I have even let go so that I am just barely not touching and she will hover upright for a few seconds. I wouldn't be surprised if she can sit on her own by next month.
Talking: Some days she does a lot of this, some days not. She has loud moments, long moments, many-syllable moments, and sing-song moments. And she can definitely complain and whine! If I take too long to feed her or we ignore her too long, she lets loose with the venting! A lot of times in the mornings we will hear her in her crib talking, laying in her belly and pushed up on her elbows to look around.
Smiling/Laughing: HUGE grins, as she has been doing for a while, but they are awesome so I still mention them. The giggling is still hit or miss, depending on her mood. It's still a rare occurrence.
Playing/Interaction: She loves grabbing things. She grabs toys dangling in front of her and passes them back and forth from hand to hand. She will grab her own hands. She grabs faces and hair if you get close enough. She will actually feel your lips when you talk, looking at them in amazement. She also grabs her feet all the time time, in "Happy Baby Pose", and even will go so far as to stick her toes in her mouth if she is barefoot.
She stares wide-eyed at everything, especially at Liam playing, and at anyone eating. She seems very curious about everything and just wants to take it all in.
Stats: at her last appointment she was 14 pounds. Since she has slowed down on weight gain, she probably is t much more than that right now. Maybe as much as 14.5? I would have to weigh her again. I forget her length, but she is pretty much at 50th percentile for everything.
Hair/eyes: her eyes are still blue grey though now they are lighter. Not sure if they will stay that way. I think Liam's took a while to turn to hazel. Her hair is growing back in now and it sticks up in short, cute, dark fuzz. Nowhere near barrette length yet. Heh.
I hopefully will post a little more often, though I may not post tons of pictures, since it's faster when I don't have them. Without pictures, I can update from work or my iPhone. And there is so much I always want to share about her (like, currently she sucks on her toes when she has a diaper change, or if barefoot lying on the playmat on her back)
