Scootch

Tonight Maia learned how to scootch (not sure how that is spelled...looks wrong no matter what) herself off the foyer landing to get down in the family room. And she was darn proud of herself. It's only one step down, but it's a third of her height so she hasn't been able to negotiate it going down. She usually stands there and makes her "help me" whining sound until we help her down. She had done this a few times, and then suddenly decided to sit down near the edge...and then scootch herself over to the edge until her legs were dangling and her toes could touch the carpet...and then she was standing up. And we cheered for her and she got so immensely proud of herself that she squealed and clasped her hands and did a happy wiggle-dance! And then she did it about a dozen more times. I have video of her doing this, but not sure if it's too big to post up here. I'll have to try it when I have gotten it off the phone and have time, so check back in a few days.

Maia Miller, 16 months

Yep, another whole month has gone by. One again, I didn't post any updates or pictures of Maia. I REALLY need to find time to just throw a few updates out there. I think about it, but then never make the time. So once again, here I am scrambling to throw everything she has done over the last month into one post, and then bury you under a ton of pictures. Sorry.

Maia babbles like crazy. And it's not even typical baby babble...no "dadada" or "babababa" or "mamama"...I mean, she uses mama and dada for us, but when she just starts babbling, it sounds like a cute little foreign language. I don't think there are any vowels in it, an all words have combinations of q's, r's, l's, th's, and maybe k's. It's so cute. She also has a few recognizable words/sounds. She says baby (beh beh) when she sees a baby. She meows (maaa-oowww) when she sees a cat or an animal that is similar. She bleats (maaa-maaa) at other animals. She says thank you (tah-tchoo). Can't get her to say please yet...still sounds like "eehhhhhhhh" (like, gimme!).

Maia loves to pick out books to read, although usually after a few pages she loses patience and just wants to turn the pages herself or close the book. She loves hugging dolls (still), and it's cute to watch her interact with them. She is not attached to one in particular, but she does have a few that she responds to more than others. She is very good at paying attention to how something works and then remembering it. I love watching her try to work things.

She walks like a pro now, and runs as well, though it's still a wobbly toddler run. She is also climbing anything she is able to get access to, and will attempt to lower herself back down without much fear. Even a tumble down the stairs didn't do much to shake the fear from her (she was very quick and we didn't notice her booking it up the stairs, at the encouragement of her brother...and then when she was halfway up he realized she shouldn't be on the stairs after all and he tried to block her...so she fell back down the stairs...sounded scary, but she was fine after much crying).

Okay, I am sure there is much more, but it's getting late and I still have to toss all the pictures up here.
