Cute little dancer

I just had to share this absolutely adorable video of Maia dancing. It was too big to upload to Facebook, so hopefully it will fit on the blog. She is dancing to the opening song from a movie...bonus points if you can guess what the movie is. And even more bonus points if you can watch this without melting or smiling.

And she's walking!

Maia is walking! Finally! She's taking those brave steps between two objects. And I don't mean just one or two steps. That's how the day started out, but then in the evening, she got braver, and over the course of a half hour, she did many passes between myself and the couch, each one requiring her to take at least 3 or 4 steps. At first she started with her back against the couch, and she would take one to two steps to get to me. Gradually I moved further away, until she had to take several steps. And she LOVED it! She wasn't afraid. She kept doing it over and over again, grinning and acting pleased with herself. And she would start to move herself further down the couch, to have to go further. At one point, she got so far away that I knew she wouldn't make it to me (it was at least 7 steps), but I waited to see what would happen. She began to take steps, but as she took her second one, she realized that it was too far and immediately changed course to lunge at the couch. She got herself closer down the couch, and then tried again...smart girl. She had found her limit point.

I am going to attempt to upload a video of her walking. If it works, please pardon my squealing. heh. I was excited. And so was she.

Movin' On Up...

...up the stairs.

That's right. Maia is now a stair climber. Only took her a day to get it down. She is getting pretty good at going up quickly, so we have to keep an eye on her now. The stairs are all blocked by gates, but sometimes we open a gate and watch her crawl out, and usually she keeps going to the kitchen to play with the letter magnets on the fridge. Now, though, as soon as she crawls past the stairs, she veers off and starts climbing them. Keeping us busy.
